Over the weekend I brewed up the Homegrown IPA kit we got from Echo View Farms and Riverbend Malt House.  You can find the recipe here.

I shot a bunch of short vids and strung them together to document the brew session.  While this may be our longest video to date, there is a handful of shots that hopefully demonstrate how my equipment works.  I use a pump and converted kegs.  If you aren’t familiar with all grain brewing, you’ll see several parts of the action in progress.

At the beginning of the video, I point out my concern with the crush. The anticipated OG was supposed to be 1.058.  My OG was around 1.048. In part, this might be related to not boiling off enough volume but I think the crush is is also responsible.  In the end, it will be the taste that matters most.   I split the batch and went for both English and American Ale yeast.  As of this writing, both beers are at 68F and fermenting pretty nicely.  The US-05 pitch seemed to start about 6 hours earlier than the S-04.  I have no doubt the S-04 will finish out first though as its a rapid fermentor.

Lastly, you’ll see in the final shot that the beers look pretty dark.  This is interesting because while there is chocolate malt in the recipe, its only 3.2 oz in 10 total gallons.  Again, we’ll see how it tastes.

Enjoy the video and leave us a few comments if there are questions.
