I already know that this hops profile is going to be incomplete. I don’t have some important information about this hop, but I can always fill it in once it becomes available.
I picked up a bottle of a single hop ESB from Harpoon’s 100 Barrel Series made with Delta Hops exclusively.
From what I found from their description of it, Delta hops are a new American variety that was bred by Hopsteiner. It’s the first commercial beer to be brewed with this new variety.
It is a cross between Fuggles and Cascade. As more information becomes available, I will add to this post.
Origin: USA
Aroma/Flavor: Earthy, minerally, a little spicy.
Alpha Acid: Not yet known
Typical Usage: I would say flavoring/aroma from its lineage.
Beer Styles: How about an ESB? Probably will work for a lot of different American style ales.

I have had the ESB, from a growler, for free in my neighbor’s driveway, from a plastic party cup. At the time I didn’t know it was made with a new hop, or I would have paid more attention than I did. Then again, I was walking the kids to the playground at the time…
But I can say that it was a good beer – I suppose Fuggle/Cascade is a good description. It left an earthy impression but not over the top, and I found it appealing so it probably had a noticeable citrus element.

Interesting.
American ales already have a lot of different flavor characteristics due to the American hop strains that are used in their brews. I suppose this is just another one to add to the list.
I’ve yet to come across these in a recipe, nor have I put them in one of my own. You have my curious though. One thing that I’ve been finding out is that I really enjoy learning more about the hops. It’s fun being able to distinguish what kinds are being used in a beer when you don’t really know till later.
Thanks for the info. I’ll keep on the look out for them!
