I am not exactly sure what the point of this post is. I am sorting it out as I type. I swear I have a message, I’m just not sure how I will get there.
I know a lot of people who have lost their jobs due to this economic meltdown. The year isn’t over and I personally don’t know when things are going to “turn around”. I really hope that it does quickly.
I spent some time this weekend popping the caps off of a few homebrews. I drank a pint or two in toasts for my laid-off friends. I drank a few other pints to help with my own anxiety.
Homebrewing is a great hobby to get your mind off the normal stress we all experience….
The craft of brewing takes time and thought….a good distraction. Plus the end result helps a lot too.
Of course, everything in moderation.
I guess my points are: Homebrewing will help us all get through these tough times and I wish good luck to my out-of-work colleagues.
Mike
Cheers to that.

I’ve sworn off buying commercial beer to make it easier to justify brewing.

Homebrewing will get you through times of no money
Better than money will get you through times of no homebrewing

Don’t forget that, bottle-for-bottle, homebrew generally costs less than commercial beer. Sure, it takes some time- but I’ve got some time on my hands now! Take advantage of the extra time and tighter budgets and try full-mash brewing; it’s takes more time but is less expensive than extract brewing.

As an unemployed fellow myself, I can say you couldn’t be more right. It is really one of the only things keeping me going at this point. Besides, people always ask about it when they see it listed as a hobby on my resume. Great site/blog.
