Beer Fridge

Posted by John in Equipment

I think the key to lagering is to buy a fridge.  My wife bought me a refrigerator for my birthday last month and it has come in handy for the lagering of the Maibock.

Right now, I have the cider that we made last October conditioning in there and some maple porters from two years ago.

I’ll get a thermostat for it eventually.  This set up will eliminate the fusel alcohol issue I had last summer when my basement was in the high 70s in the month of August.

If you can get your hands on a used fridge, I think it is a good investment.

I got a wine refrigerator for free off Craigslist. The only problem with it was the internal temperature controller, which was fine since I planned on plugging it into an external one anyway.

    Free is the best price.

    John,

I agree… you have to have a second fridge for brewing. My wife allows me to keep one in the garage and it allows me to brew way more and not have to worry about filling up the kitch fridge. It has increased productivity and quality. Thanks for the post!

I just took inventory of mine on my blog http://www.beerandbaking.com and it seems I have collected a lot of beer! My only issue is I will be brewing on Saturday and I might not have enough room for it all…
